Final Destination Trailer

This clip here is a teaser trailer for Final Destination 3, overall this clip consists of 41 quick cuts in a space of 32 seconds. This teaser trailer in particular is quite short compared to others which normally range from 30-1.40 seconds. But this one is a good example as it doesnt give much away at all . The clips are so fast you only catch pieces of whats going on as there is so much going on you don't have a chance to think. The distributor of this film is Newline Cinema who are quite popular for action / horror films. This film in particular comes under both genres, i chose to analyse this because it includes alot of things other teaser trailers i have analysed before don't have. As the clip progresses i start to notice alot of common codes and conventions of a horror movie. There are alot of references to death, and blood is used quite frequently, strangely in the transitions between clips. In particular the clip where they saturate the shot of the eye to Red.

They have also used the institution logo in the eye and have adapted it to fit the horror genre buy adding a common convention, blood.

In this trailer there is a common use of fire mainly representing danger and destruction. One part which interesed me was the layering of the flames over the house, perhaps predicting their fate. They are also total opposites, one picture shows a typical happy home, and the fire by its self is a natural thing but put together it gives the audience a bad feeling.

Unlike most horror / action films this one includes alot of special effects reducing the sense of realism, for instance exaggerated sounds to build up tension. On part which uses special effects the most is when the car is flipping in the air and a big bolder comes flying at the woman. This isnt something you would see in real life, it had been computer generated to scare people because it looks as though its actually happening.

In this clip there are a range of shots and angles to help get across to the audience the amount of destruction which is happening and the characters emotions. In this clip it shows the fear and pain the the mans face under water. They have used a mid shot for this so you can still see his facial expressions clearly but you can also see his body and why he is acting this way. Water is used alot in horror movies mainly because of the sounds it makes can be quite scary and if you're not careful water can be fatal as we see in this clip.

The use of sounds in this teaser trailer are also particularly interesting as they have been axaggerated to create tension and make it quite scary. This is mainly people talking, screaming and the action that is taking place. Although there is also a voice over on this clip which varies in teaser trailers as sometimes the are needed due to having enough information, and the footage telling the story itself. Sometimes using this can be quite risky as you can give too much away but overall it works well in this trailer.

In this trailer they use alot of text which runs along with the voice over. This font has been displayed in a White-ish colour which contrasts with the Blue background which looks like smoke of some sort. It is interesting as each clip with writing on tells the audience more with out giving too much away. It also gets them thinking about what might happen next and what the producers are trying to get across to the audience. Using this effect they have also displayed a release date in bold at the end of the trailer informing the audience when they can go and see this film. And not forgetting the website address below to help market the product further but in a different format.
