Here i am going to basically conclude what I've learnt and how I can apply this to my own work. I will start by looking at Teaser Trailers then moving onto the Movie Posters :)
Teaser Trailers . . .
For my teaser trailers i have decided to look at three movies which are relevant to the horror movie genre. The first trailer i started to analyse was "Mirrors" which was slightly longer than the other typical teaser trailers i analysed. Most teaser trailers range from 30 seconds to about one minute. Just by looking at these trailers you can instantly see the difference between a theatrical and a teaser. Theatrical trailers are slightly longer and obviously contain a lot more clips but as for a teaser trailer , they only contain certain important clips. Enough to entice the audience to see the film when it is released. One thing that differs with teaser trailers are the amount of cuts. This varies due to the pace of the film , for example in "Mirrors" there is a lot of action and in order to get all important clips fast, quick, choppy cuts are used, also to create tension and suspense. But starting at the beginning of a teaser trailer we are often faced with the institutions logo for example "The Blair Witch Project" uses Artisan Entertainment.
Like all horror movies they contain at least one common convention in their film to help create a successful movie. For example blood is used a great deal obviously to show someones death or injuries but also as Red symbolises danger it sends warning messages across to the audience. Another common convention would have to be the fact that trees or woodland is commonly used at some point through out the trailers as it creates a shadowy eerie effect.
When watching a few horror trailers you tend to notice a lot of things in common , for example they normally start with slow calm music then gradually fading into louder more effective sounds as the action progresses building up tension and creating an atmosphere. And normally at the beginning as the audience we are faced with an establishing shot setting the scene. Telling us where the action is going to take place. So overall by looking at these trailers i have learnt a lot about the construction and transitions of the slides (fading in from black etc.) and would like to include a lot of what I've learnt in my own work , as this will hopefully help me develop my work to a higher level when creating my own Teaser Trailer.
