Here is my final piece, after evaluating various movie posters and taking into consideration the typical codes and conventions they contain i have been able to produce this piece. I have used Photoshop to manipulate and edit these images as well as piecing them together. I used layering to do so as i found it gave my piece a realistic effect where as on other posters i have analysed they look as though they have been taken professionally in a studio and i didn't want to display this to my audience. I chose to include the photograph of trees at night and layer this with the fire from the trailer. I experimented around with the opacity of this layer and found it looked better at a lower percentage as it slightly blends in with the eyes which are the next layer. To me when you see fire it reflects danger and destruction which is exactly what i wanted to reflect in my product. To me i would say the picture itself has a meaning of its own. I have also used the fire to contrast with the other colours particularly the Black background. For the next layer i chose to display a set of eyes to draw the audience in and form a bond with them. I chose to picture these as a close up to get the detail, and reflect the persons soul looking evil. I also changed the opacity to blend them in with the other layers so they don't look flat. As for the title of the movie i chose to stick to the same font as it creates a link with the film. As for the slogan i decided to create one to entice the audience to see it and to tell a little story so i thought by using, "The eyes only see what the mind is prepared to comprehend" would work. Like other movie posters i included credits in a white font ( like horror movie posters) so they would stand out from the Black background. I included a release date in a bold Red font to grab the audiences attention. I also included my institution logo and changed the colour to adapt it to my poster. And last but not least i added a website which would help to promote the product further.
I like the concept of what you have here, Lauren, but I wonder about taking the opacity of the eyes down slightly so that the blend with the flames is more subtle? Experiment with it and see what you think.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks pretty good. I like how the flames and eyes are placed over the setting for the film and transparent.
ReplyDeleteThe title and colours suit the horror theme of your film well and the white credits at the bottom really add to the authenticity of the poster.
