To complete my Teaser Trailer it is essential to include some sort of Sound, Music or Narration. So before i decided what i was going to use in my Trailer i decided to experiment with different Sounds & Narrations. While looking at other teaser trailers i noticed that Sound Effects are a key part of setting the scene, in order to create a successful horror movie trailer it is good idea to create an atmosphere and tension. While producing my Preliminary Task i used various sound effects from the software i used (iMovie) which were also copyright free. This is an option for me but while i was practicing filming i found i could create my own sound effects with a voice recorder, which i could then import onto the computer and add to my work. And even copying some of the sounds from various clips could do the trick. For my trailer i would mainly like to use the sound of wind as it creates tension and makes different sounds especially when it howls setting the scene (outside , some where open). Also screams and people shouting is a common convention used in Horror Movies showing the characters are distressed and perhaps in need of help. I would like to include screams and shouting in my own work as it would go well with my storyline e.g. when they are looking for the missing character or even the girls screaming back at the camp wanting help?
As for narration, this is commonly used in Theatrical Trailers and not so much Teaser Trailers but is still a good effect... you don't necessarily need a person talking over the Trailer you could simply have frames with text on telling the story. They are mainly used for Theatrical purposes because the whole aim of a Teaser Trailer is not to give too much of the plot away so if a voice over is used it is minimal. If i were to use Narration in my Trailer i would look at using a mans voice as it is deep and sounds powerful, which would be good to use for the genre of Horror.
But as my storyline is quite self explanatory i don't think i will use Narration but it is still a possibility. Personally i like the idea of using Music on my Trailer mainly because it does the same job i.e. building tension and suspense but doesn't give too much away. I have searched and looked on various websites to see the types of music i can get which is copyright free and don't feel they are suitable for my work so i have been experimenting with Garage Band, software of which we have available to us to create a piece of music to fit the horror genre. I'm hoping to make it quite loud, choppy, but maybe in some parts use Non-Diagetic sounds.
