What Distributor should I use?

Now i come to decide what distributor to use for my trailer. To get ideas of other horror movie producers i researched and looked at other institutions to see which were the more popular ones and which ones wasn't as popular used a lower budget. When looking at lower budget distributors i found there wasn't as many but some of which were quite popular and well known for example the producers of the Blair Witch Project "Artisan Entertainment" and the producers of Saw "Twisted Pictures" so i will look closely at these kinds of distributors.

Twisted Pictures

They have produced films such as :

Twisted pictures is a production company mainly specialising in the horror film genre, they are particularly well known for producing a series of Saw films. They haven't produced as many films as other distributors but the ones they have produced have been highly successful. I would say this is mainly because they are specialising in one genre and can focus on including certain elements and conventions a horror movie should include.

  • Saw I - VI ( 2003 - Present)
  • Catacombs (2007)
  • Dead Silence (2007)
  • Chain Letter (2009) etc.

Artisan Entertainment

  • Formerly a small privately held independent American studio taken over by Lionsgate a larger more popular movie distributor in 2003. Before they were bought by this larger producer they made many successful films some of these include ...
  • The Blair Witch Project (1999)
  • Stir of Echoes (1999)
  • Book of Shadows - Blair Witch 2 (2000)
  • Devils Pond (2003)

New Line Cinema

New Line Cinema, founded in 1967 is a very popular distributor in America and still are producing films today. Although New Line Cinema became a subsidiary or New Time Warner they still are able to produce and distribute their own films. Some of their horror films which they have distributed are ....

  • Friday the 13th (2009)
  • The Final Destination (2009)
  • Freddy VS Jason (2003)
  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Columbia Pictures

Columbia Pictures is also another big American film distributor but is now owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment and also forms Columbia Tristar. This company was founded in 1919 releasing their first feature film in 1922 and went pubic in 1926, this company has been quite successful and is still producing films to the present day. Being this distribution company is so big it doesn't just specialise in one specific genre it ranges from action to horror but some of their most successful horror films include . . .

  • The Boogeyman2 (2008)
  • The Messengers (2007)
  • The Fog (2005)
  • The Grudge (2004)
  • The Grudge 2 (2006)

So by looking at these different distributors in greater depth i have noticed the majority of them are not just one independent company they are normally part of many different producers like Columbia Pictures for example. Alot of distributors now days don't just specialise in one particular genre, they range from Action to Comedy etc. Therefor i would like to choose a distributor that specialises in my chosen genre , Horror. So personally i feel Twisted Pictures would be the best one for me. I also like the logo of this company as it relates well to the horror genre using barbed wire, which is seen as quite dangerous and the font is not necessarily neat making it look interesting and quite creepy. Here is the opening for Twisted Pictures which i hope to use in my own Teaser Trailer...
