Ideas For My Own Magazine Cover

By analysing various magazine covers it has helped me to develop some ideas for my own product. I am going to take into account the common codes and conventions used and add some of these into my own work. I will also take the basic layout for magazine covers and adjust it slightly to make it my own. At this moment in time i like the idea of adjusting the magazine to fit the genre of my teaser trailer, this includes using all the common codes and conventions of the horror genre. For example my piece will include a big contrast between light and dark colours in particular Black because it suggests night, darkness and evil. And not forgetting Red, which reflects Blood and is also a warning and sign of danger. For the sub-headings i am planning to colour the majority of these white as you have the contrast of a dark dull evil background with the purity of a White font.
As for the images i am going to include i plan to use layering in P'hotoshop to merge some of these together. Photoshop will be particularly good to use as i can manipulate and edit images successfully. Here are the images below which i aim to use and layer in my magazine cover in hope to reflect the horror genre...

What to Call My Magazine?

I've now decided what images I'm going to use, now I have to decide on a name for my magazine. After a long time thinking, looking for inspiration and asking people what they thought would be suitable I narrowed it down to 5 names which i thought could work. To help me decide which one to use I chose to ask my target audience which they preferred and what one they thought worked best and this is what they thought:

  • Dive-In -4
  • Cinematic-0
  • Rush-2
  • Exhibit-8
  • Final Cut -1

From a sample of 15 i found that 8 people preferred the name Exhibit for my magazine cover. The other which they also liked but not quite as much was Dive-In. So i am going to take my target audiences feedback and opinions and use Exhibit for the name as it sounds quite professional and obviously appeals to them more than the others do.
